Founded on january 24, 2001, the French Society of Maritime Medicine (SFMM) has three objects :

• to promote hygiene and health in the maritime sphere.

• to promote and develop medical knowledge on the maritime sphere, and the teaching of maritime medicine.

• to develop relations with the others maritime medicine associations throughout the world.
